What We Found

She said it: Mace posted those exact words on her personal X account (@NancyMace) on Oct. 18, 2026, with no source or link.

Where the numbers came from: they match a tally posted Oct. 16 by the anonymous X account @Libertys_Belle, compiled by hand from local news reports (it also lists 37 attempts with 52 children surviving). That poster later said the count starts from when Clancy killed her children in January 2023, not from her trial, and only includes cases where hormones or postpartum illness were part of the defense or coverage.

No official national count of filicide by mothers since a given date exists, so the 82/123 figures can't be independently verified.

The case: Clancy, a former nurse, is charged with killing her three children in Duxbury, Mass., on Jan. 24, 2023. Her trial ended in a mistrial on Sept. 4, 2026, after jurors deadlocked 11-1 in favor of finding her not criminally responsible due to postpartum psychosis. The Plymouth County DA hasn't decided on a retrial; the next hearing is Nov. 2.
