Israel votes in its first national election since the Oct. 7 attack, with turnout near 45% by 2 p.m.
Israel's Central Elections Committee reported almost 45% turnout by 2 p.m. Tuesday, which the AP said is the highest by that hour in 50 years and six points above 2022. The BBC described the vote as a referendum on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whose main challenger is former military chief Gadi Eisenkot, and reported neither bloc is projected to reach the 61 seats needed to govern. Exit polls are due at 10 p.m. Israel time (about 1 p.m. PT), and official results by Nov. 4.
